The Mount. Lao not only laurelled as the most famous mountain on the sea for its beautiful natural scenery and long history of Taoist, but also is regarded as a holy place of Buddhism in China because of its incorporating spirit bestowed by the mountain and the sea.
It is about 1700 years ago that the Buddhism was introduced into the area of the Mount. Lao. The Mount. Lao Buddhism began from the Wei and Jin dynasties, which reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty, gradually declining in the late Qing Dynasty. In the year 412 AD, the monk, Fa Xian returned from India, landed at the Mount. Lao and built the Shifo Temple. Since then, the Buddhism was widely disseminated in the area of the Mount. Lao. To the Northern Wei Dynasty, the construction of the Fahai Temple marked that the Mount. Lao Buddhism has began to take shape. 
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties ,there have been builded more than 20 temples. The most famous temple was created nine years behind as Shuzhi founder, named the Huayan Temple, which is famous and magnificent in scale. The Huayan Temple, the Shifo Temple and the Fahai Temple were regardedas the three major Buddhist Temples of the Mount. Lao.
